Sifat Fisis Dan Mekanis Papan Partikel Kayu Sengon (Falcataria Moluccana) Akibat Perlakuan Pendahuluan Panas

ABSTRACT
Sengon wood particleboard is widely used in the wood and furniture industry, however sengon wood particleboard has disadvantages, namely dimensional stability of physical properties and low strength of mechanical properties. Hot water immersion and steam treatments need to be carried out to improve the physical and mechanical properties of sengon wood particleboard. This research aims to evaluate the effect of hot water immersion and steam treatments on the physical and mechanical properties of sengon wood particleboard (Falcataria moluccana). Sengon wood particles were treated with hot soaking at temperature of 80oC for 120 minutes and steam treatment at a temperature of 126oC with a pressure of 1.4 MPa for 60 minutes. Particleboard was made with dimensions of 30 cm x 30 cm x 0,9 cm. Physical and mechanical properties testing refers to JIS A 5908-2003 standard. The research results show that steam treatment is the best heat treatment that can improve the physical and mechanical properties of sengon wood particleboard.
