Abstract

Framing analysis in media research has evolved rapidly, but its application to press releases or public relations statements remains limited. This study aims to analyze the framing of SMA Tarakanita 1 Jakarta's position statement regarding the AGH case, involving legal action against Mario Dandy Satriyo (20) for the alleged assault on David Ozora (17). Using a qualitative descriptive approach and Robert N. Entman's framing analysis method, this study examines how SMA Tarakanita 1 Jakarta selects and emphasizes certain aspects of the crisis stemming from AGH's alleged involvement. In addition to analyzing the primary data—the text of the position statement—the researcher conducted several in-depth interviews with the Head of the Tarakanita Crisis Center (TCC) to comprehensively explore the framing and agenda-setting processes. The research findings reveal that SMA Tarakanita 1 Jakarta framed its position statement in the AGH case by defining the event using moral values and law as a way of defining the problem, making moral judgments, and recommending actions. This relates to the school's efforts to maintain a good image and treat it as crisis management. The interview also revealed Tarakanita’s potential as a public relations model for educational institutions in crisis management through the Tarakanita Crisis Center (TCC), which aims to maintain the organization’s reputation and image while handling crises effectively. This underscores the importance of strategic communication and crisis response mechanisms in maintaining organizational integrity amidst challenges.
