Abstract

This research analyzes the communication patterns in a single mother's family shown in the
film Yang Tak Tergantikan using Koerner and Fitzpatrick's Family Communication Patterns (FCP)
approach and Tzvetan Todorov's narrative analysis method. The movie depicts the struggle of a single
mother in building effective communication with her children after divorce. The results show that the
communication pattern in this movie undergoes a shift from protective towards a combination of
consensual and pluralistic, where the mother initially applies more authoritative communication but then
adapts to a more open and flexible communication pattern. These communication patterns play an
important role in describing the role of single mothers in parenting based on the Family Communication Pattern theory. This study
provides insight into the importance of open communication in single mother families and is expected to
be a reference for future research related to family communication after divorce.
